Home-Maintenance Checklist for December

Dec 05, 2013 No Comments by

Many households are celebrating and welcoming visitors in December, so most homeowners will be too busy to start any major home improvement jobs this month. Instead prepare your house for company and potential snowfall now that winter has finally arrived!

First of all, ensure your appliances are ready for the holiday and your guests. Clean the oven and drip pans (or surface burner) on your stove. Vacuum dust from the lower grill of the refrigerator and then use the brush attachment of the vacuum on the condenser coils in the back of the refrigerator. You may also want to clean the dishwasher strainer and washer arm, since they will be doing a lot of dishes after your festivities.

As for snowy weather, there are several things you can do so the snow doesn’t ruin your holiday. Break up any ice dams on the roof; get rid of the snow on the branches, so they don’t snap; and—if you can do it safely—sweep snow of any roofs that aren’t well supported.
