Planning Bathroom Remodeling Costs

Nov 14, 2013 No Comments by

The bathroom is one of the most expensive rooms to re-do per square foot. Because its functionality is so complex, remodelers usually end up spending a hefty chunk of their budget on labor costs—although the finished products (toilets, sinks, etc.) are expensive too.

To help you plan your budget, HomeServiceWorld offers the following guidelines and tips for your bathroom renovation project:

According to HomeAdvisor, the average cost of a comprehensive bathroom remodel is $9,000; however, they caution that a thoroughly comprehensive renovation will skew upwards to $15,000. They also advise that paying as much as $50,000 for a full master bathroom renovation is not outlandish. Thankfully, you can accomplish your renovation for less, if you are careful about how you spend.

With that in mind, plan to spend about 60% of your budget on labor due to time-consuming tasks, such as laying tile and plumbing installation. Obviously, costs will vary depending on your specific project, but you should always factor in a high cost for labor.

As for the price of finished products, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) estimates that faucets and plumbing account for 14% of the total spend, fixtures cost 15%, and countertops 7%.

No matter how big or small your budget, a bathroom remodel is a great way to add value to your home. Determining your costs ahead of time will help you stick to that budget and can eventually provide a better return on investment when you sell your home.
