September Home Maintenance Checklist

As summer ends, it’s time to prepare your home for cooler weather. Lower temperatures often increase the threat of something going awry in your home, such as frozen pipes. However, September is pleasant enough for homeowners to accomplish tasks that are best done in warmer weather.

1.) Inspect storm windows and have any repairs done before installing them in October.

2.) Add weather stripping to doors and windows so that any gaps are sealed. You want to prevent cold air and moisture from sneaking in, otherwise you may feel drafts and the pain of rising energy costs.

3.) Check outdoor paint for peeling and cracks, which can cause moisture to collect behind the paint. Once it starts gathering, the water can lead to rotting and potential leaks. If you catch this issue in time, you can caulk, prime, and re-paint before it becomes too cold in the coming months.
