Tips for Choosing the Right Paint Color

Home painting projects are fun yet daunting. Deciding the colors that work best for your home can be a challenge. But as is true of any home improvement project, having a plan can be a difference maker.

First, it’s important to understand the mood you want your color to convey. Are you interested in warm colors like reds and pinks or cold tones like blues and purples? Do you want a traditional or contemporary feel to your room? Once you have a tone in mind, it’s time to take a trip to your local paint store. Paint stores have a large selection of sample cards to take home. Samples allow you to study colors in your home giving you a better feel for what they will look like. Don’t be afraid to take more than one sample. Samples are free and usually come with complementary colors; great for color shading and coordination.

Take the time to evaluate your samples. You needn’t decide on a paint color overnight. When you select your color, it would be wise to buy a small pint before committing to larger paint amounts. Using sample cards to choose your color is a good initial step but you won’t know if you made the right decision until you take a brush to your wall.

It might take a few days to get used to your newly painted room. After rearranging the room with your furniture and other decorative elements, your home improvement project will color you satisfied.
